The U.S. Open Cup round-of-16 wrapped up Wednesday evening, as the final eight teams will enter the upcoming draw.

Well, plenty happened.Ā The 34 goals in the fifth round of this year’s US Open Cup were the most scored in the round of 16 of the competition since 2005.
The last remaining USL team was sent packing as the Philadelphia Union comfortable dispatched Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Both Cavan and Quinn Sullivan played key roles in the home side’s victory.
Meanwhile, St. Louis City collapsed in the dying minutes against Minnesota United, allowing two late goals to see their cup campaign meet a disappointing end.
Two different matches went to a penalty-shootout as the drama was ratcheted up in the later evening. D.C. United goalkeeperĀ Jordan Farr came off the bench to play hero and make a couple of huge saves to knock out Charlotte, while FC Dallas fell in a shootout against New York Red Bulls.
In perhaps the game of the night, Nashville sent Orlando City crashing out after a five-goal thriller in Florida ā and the assist and finish on the winner was not too shabby either. It was Orlando’s first defeat in any competition since mid-March.
Finally to wrap up the night, Austin perhaps opened the floodgates for the first time this season with a comfortable victory over Texas rivals Houston.
Player of the night
D.C. United goalkeeper Jordan Farr played out one of the ultimate storylines in football. The 30-year-old came off the bench late in extra-time ahead of the penalty-shootout, and made three massive saves to see United over the line.
Goal of the night
There were a plethora of superb strikes this evening in USOC, but you just can’t look away fromĀ Marco PaÅ”aliÄ’s thunderbolt in Orlando.
