Illinois women’s basketball head coach Shauna Green and the university have agreed to amended terms on her current contract, Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman announced.
Green’s current deal runs through June 30, 2032, but the new agreement could extend her contract through June 30, 2036, based on team performance. The deal is pending approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees on Sept. 17.
Green has completely turned the program around since taking over ahead of the 2022-23 season, after transferring from Dayton.

In four years, she has led Illinois to 85 wins, four consecutive March Madness appearances and the first postseason championship in program history with the 2024 WBIT title. The Illini have also won an NCAA Tournament game in consecutive seasons and earned nine victories over Top 25 opponents during her tenure.
“We have come a long way in four years here, but there is still plenty left to accomplish,” Green said in a statement.
With this amended extension, Green will have plenty of time to continue building on an already historically successful stretch for the Illini.
Illinois finished 22-12 last season and picked up three ranked wins, including a victory over No. 7 Maryland for the program’s first top-10 win in more than a decade. The Illini also set single-season program records in free-throw percentage, fewest turnovers per game and longest winning streak while fielding the youngest team in the Big Ten.
