Texas Longhorns Get First 2028 Verbal From Summer Nationals Finalist Aubrial MacKay
NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has secured its first public verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Aubrial MacKay of Owosso, Mich. A versatile swimmer, MacKay is a Summer Nationals qualifier and is among the top recruits in the Class of 2032.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Texas!! I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to go through this process with the support system I did. I’d like to thank God first and foremost. He gave me peace over this decision and I’m overflowing with gratitude for the path He has set before me. I’d also like to thank my family. Thank you Mom for being my biggest supporter. You show me what a woman of God is, and set an example of what sacrifice and determination look like. You are my best friend. Thank you Dad for pushing me and encouraging me. You believed in me far more than I ever did in myself. Also I have so much gratitude for my Grandma and Grandpa who spent countless hours driving me to and from practice. I’d also like to thank my friends for being my biggest fans and my four younger brothers for holding me accountable and making my life a special one. The years we grew up together are ones I hold close to my heart, yet I know we’re still growing and that gives me excitement for the future. Last but not least I’d like to thank my coaches. Thank you to coach Adam for all the hard sets and pump up talks. Thank you to coach Chase for making sure swimming stays fun. MacKay, who trains year-round with OLY Swimming, most recently competed at USA Swimming National Championships where she finaled in the 100m fly. That was after she earned bronze in the 200m fly at NCSA Summer Championships.
Last winter, she placed 10th in the 200 fly, 13th in the 100 fly and 16th in the 100 back at Juniors East. MacKay then went on to earn bronze in the 50 fly and 200 fly at NCSA Summer Championships with six other top-18 finishes. She also won the 50m back at Indianapolis Speedo Sectionals and was the runner-up in the 100 fly.

- 100 free – 50.84

Texas won their second consecutive SEC Championship – and 38th overall conference title – in 2026, collecting seven gold medals and 21 total podium finishes during the conference meet. The Longhorns then finished third at the 2026 NCAA Championships, their sixth straight top-3 finish under head coach Carol Capitani.
MacKay’s best time in the 200 fly is already fast enough to score in the B-final at SECs, while her top times in the 100 fly and 100 back would’ve scored in the C-final.
