FIBA is working alongside the NBA on the broader NBA Europe project, but the governing body reportedly does not have a direct role in the NBA’s current negotiations with EuroLeague.
FIBA Europe president Jorge Garbajosa previously explained that discussions over a potential agreement are bilateral, meaning they are being conducted between the NBA and EuroLeague.
However, FIBA has attempted to help the sides find common ground by inviting representatives from both organizations to discussions.
The distinction means FIBA remains involved in the development of NBA Europe while leaving the specific terms of any potential NBA-EuroLeague partnership for the two organizations to negotiate directly.
