Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom revealed that a life insurance company refused to provide him with full coverage because it considered his risk of being killed too high.
Kanter Freedom, who has frequently spoken publicly about political and human rights issues, said he attempted to obtain life insurance approximately two years ago but was informed that he did not qualify for the full amount of coverage.
“I tried to get a life insurance around two years ago, and the company said, ‘We cannot give you the full coverage because you have a very high percent chance of getting killed.’”
According to the former Boston Celtics center, the insurance provider’s assessment forced him to accept reduced coverage instead.
He also addressed the criticism he regularly receives, explaining that many people do not understand the personal difficulties he says he faces because of his public activities.
“So I had to get like a half coverage… people out there, people criticize me all the time. Every single day there’s somebody out there criticizing me.”
Kanter Freedom has remained outspoken on various international issues since his departure from the NBA, frequently discussing human rights and political controversies.
He said that accusations of seeking publicity overlook the challenges and potential dangers associated with his activities.
“When people think that I do what I do for attention, I’m like, ‘You guys have no idea what I actually go through.’”
