Much to the frustration of the visibly upset Italians, it was Taipei who got the nod.
“We were very lucky that we had the opportunity to do the practise round,” added 2019 World gold medallist Huang on her and Chen getting one of two first round byes. “Also, we tried a different order because before I always shot first but during the practise end we decided to change.”
Their soon to be opponents Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav of India shot exceptionally precise too, shooting 156 against Spain and Denmark, who included Indoor World Series champion Tanja Gellenthien and world number two Mathias Fullerton, and then 159 against Slovenia, one off a perfect score of 160, thus saving the best until last
Yadav will be looking forward to the stage on Saturday in particular having never won a World Cup medal before as he and powerhouses India build to LA28.
“Initially, when the news was it’s not adding, we were very disappointed but not disheartened because we knew we had many more events to focus on,” said the Nimes silver medallist Yadav on compound now being an Olympic sport. “But now finally, when we have the Olympic tag, we can finally get a missing medal for India.”
“We have high hopes in compound and we hope to keep those hopes.”
