The Italian compound archer and coach Sergio Pagni has been appointed as technical head coach of the Korean national compound team, as they prepare for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan starting in September.
Pagni, a two-time individual Archery World Cup gold medallist, is the second foreign compound coach to be appointed to a role on the Korean team, after Reo Wilde took his first formal coaching role there in 2023, in advance of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games which were delayed a year due to the pandemic.
Pagni will be based in Korea and work directly with the athletes on a day-to-day basis while travelling as needed. He is contracted until the end of the current season with a possibility for extension.
Notably, he was the head coach for the Indian compound team who took all five gold medals available at the last continental Games.
The engineer, coach and commentator George Tekmitchov will also have a role as a compound archery advisor, “supporting its long-term development through strategic guidance, technical input, and collaboration with our coaching staff across various areas,” according to the Korea archery association.
The Korean federation recently completed athlete selection for the remainder of the 2026 season, which saw several athletes make their debut appearance on the women’s compound team.
