Pro Swim Series Sacramento, Day 4 Finals: Torri Huske, Luka Mijatovic, Kennedi Dobson Add Additional Wins to Cap Meet
The top heats of the 800 freestyle kicked off the final session of the Sacramento Pro Series, and a pair of teenage rising stars added the third victories of the meet with personal-best times. Kennedi Dobson added to her earlier wins in the 400 IM and 400 free, and Luka Mijatovic followed up his first sub-15:00 performance in the 1500 free and a National Age Group record in the 400 free.
Afterward, Torri Huske secured her fourth win of the meet in the 50 butterfly while coming up just short of a fifth top finish in the 100 free. Other highlights include teenager Mikayla Tan and veteran Henry McFadden winning their second events, with McFadden tying Ruslan Gaziev in the 100 free. In a showdown of veteran standouts, Rhyan White overtook Phoebe Bacon in the women’s 200 backstroke.
Women’s 800 Freestyle
For the third time in Sacramento, Kennedi Dobson has reached the winner’s circle. After a tight race with Louisville’s Thilda Hall for the first portion of the race, Dobson accelerated in the final 300 meters to add another triumph to her earlier first-place finishes in the 400 IM and 400 free. Fresh off a run of huge time drops during her freshman season at the University of Georgia, Dobson achieved another top mark here at 8:33.50, more than a second quicker than her previous best of 8:34.74.
Hall, the winner of the 1500 free three days earlier, claimed second in 8:36.67, wiping almost eight seconds off her previous best. Finishing third was Michaela Mattes in 8:47.14.

Men’s 800 Freestyle

Record watch was on in the men’s 800 free after Luka Mijatovic swam the quickest time ever for 17-18 male swimmers in the 400 free Friday night. The mark was Mijatovic’s first after aging up after he previously demolished almost every distance mark in the 15-16 division. Indeed, Mijatovic crushed the field in the 16-lap event while lowering his own personal best time, although it was not enough for another NAG mark.
Mijatovic finished 13 seconds clear of the field in 7:47.08, eclipsing his most recent best time of 7:48.28 from late last year. Mijatovic previously finished second in the event at last year’s U.S. Nationals, but he did not swim fast enough to qualify for the World Championships. That is no longer a concern; this latest effort would have been quick enough to reach the global final in 2025 and place sixth in the final.
Finishing well behind in second place was Ethan Ekk, who overtook Juan Vallmitjana on the final length. Ekk touched in 8:00.70, with Vallmitjana going 8:00.88.

Women’s 50 Butterfly
The first swimmer to win four events in Sacramento is Torri Huske, who got the better of the field in the 50 fly. Huske qualified merely sixth in the morning prelims, but she got off to a tremendous start at night and swam more than a second quicker to get the better of a much-improved field.
Huske touched in 25.95, 0.12 ahead of three-time Canadian Olympian Taylor Ruck at 26.07. Just behind in third was Lismar Lyon in 26.08 while Marie Wattel, the top qualifier in prelims, fell to fourth in 26.29.

Men’s 50 Butterfly
This race came down to one hundredth at the finish, and Santo Condorelli came out on top. The 31-year-old, who represented the U.S. for the first time at last year’s World Championships after previously representing Canada and Italy at the Olympics, touched out Dylan Carter by one hundredth to secure the win. Condorelli went 23.12, with Carter at 23.13.
Sean Niewold, the top finisher in the 100 fly and 50 free, had the top time of the day when he went 22.94 in prelims, but he was unable to match that result at night. Niewold ended up third in 23.21, with Michael Andrew in fourth place (23.26).

Women’s 100 Breaststroke
Teenager Mikayla Tan has her second victory of the competition. Previously the winner of the 200 breast Saturday, Tan came back from third place at the halfway point to beat out a veteran-laden field and pick up the top spot by almost four tenths. Tan, a 16-year-old representing San Ramon Valley, finished in 1:08.16 to beat out Aliz Kalmar of Fresno State, who came home second in 1:08.54. Adalene Robillard took third in 1:09.08, just ahead of Stanford teammate Lucy Thomas (1:09.12).

Men’s 100 Breaststroke
Cal’s Yamato Okadome built serious momentum during the college season, winning individual NCAA titles in the 100 and 200-yard breast, and he is bringing that strong form to the long course pool. Just like in the women’s event, the winner sat in fourth place at the halfway point, with Okadome behind Michael Andrew, Carles Coll Marti and Josh Matheny, but no one could match his closing speed.
Okadome swam a time of 1:00.38, just off his best time of 1:00.21. Coll Marti, the native of Spain who won the 200 breast Friday, placed second in 1:00.82, just holding off Virginia Tech training partner Eli Martin (1:00.88). Matheny, a two-time World Championships finalist in the event, also swam under 1:01 (1:00.94) while Andrew faded to sixth (1:01.65).

Women’s 200 Backstroke
The two women who represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympics five years ago went head-to-head in the final. Phoebe Bacon was the top qualifier and led almost the whole race, but Rhyan White had a charge waiting on the final length. After closing the gap to nine hundredths, White came home in 32.97 to pull away from Bacon and take the win in 2:08.41.
Bacon, who went 2:07.62 in the semifinals for the top time of the meet, placed second in 2:08.96. Well back in third was 14-year-old Lauren Lonsdale in 2:12.81, just ahead of Kennedi Dobson (2:12.82). Dobson, a three-time winner in Sacramento, was marginally off her best time while Lonsdale dropped a whopping three seconds from her best time this week.

Men’s 200 Backstroke
This meet in Sacramento has brought strong freestyle results, but Keaton Jones is best known for his results in the 200 backstroke, the event in which he placed fifth at the Paris Olympics. In Saturday’s final of the event, Jones posted a wire-to-wire, statement-making victory.
Jones led by more than a second at the halfway point and extended the lead entering the final length. Daniel Diehl, the gold medalist in the event at last year’s World University Games, split 29.61 on the last length to close the gap, but it was not enough to make a difference as Jones clocked 1:57.26. He went even quicker in Friday’s semifinals at 1:57.26. Diehl placed second in 1:57.92 while his NC State teammate Gavin Keough touched out Canada’s Blake Tierney for third, 1:59.27 to 1:59.40.

Women’s 100 Freestyle
Torri Huske had eyes on a fifth victory at this Pro Series meet, but it was not to be as Taylor Ruck had too much speed in this one. Ruck blasted out ahead of the field with a split of 25.83, and she overcame Huske’s typical strong turn and underwater kickout to maintain and even extend the lead down the stretch.
Ruck, a 25-year-old who has represented Canada at the last three Olympics, finished in 53.90 while Huske, last year’s top-ranked swimmer, placed second in 54.14. Mary-Ambre Moluh showed some speed to take third in 54.53, ahead of the fast-finishing Kalia Antoniou (54.72).

Men’s 100 Freestyle
The race in the men’s 100 free came down to the wire between Henry McFadden in lane five and Ruslan Gaziev in lane eight, having narrowly earned a spot in the top heat. At the finish, both men finished in 48.72 to beat the field by three tenths and share the win.
Sean Niewold was unable to match his prelims mark of 48.86, but he held on for third in 49.02, his fourth top-three result of the competition. Not far back were Nans Mazellier (49.14), Brendan Whitfield (49.21) and Lamar Taylor (49.23).
Women’s 200 Butterfly
No one came close to stopping Caroline Bricker in the women’s 200 fly. Last year, Bricker broke out to take the win in the event at U.S. Nationals and then place sixth in the World Championships final. She experienced mixed results during the most recent collegiate season, but Bricker is on track for a strong showing in the event at this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships, for which she qualified based on last year’s results.
Bricker posted a mark of 2:08.38 for the win here, more than a second quicker than the 2:09.53 she swam in the semifinal round. Second place went to Bella Sims in 2:11.73, her best time by a half-second. Sims, a relay swimmer for the United States at the Tokyo Olympics, has won NCAA titles in freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, and she continues to expand on her versatile repertoire. Third here went to Moji Pholjamjumrus in 2:14.50.

Men’s 200 Butterfly
In the last A-final of the meet, Charlie Cancelmo picked up the win with the only sub-2:00 performance in the field. The 16-year-old from Seattle Metropolitan came in at 1:59.53 to take down runnerup Joey Tepper by seven tenths. Tepper clocked 2:00.13, just ahead of Andres Brooks (2:00.24). Henry McFadden had recorded a time of 1:59.91 in the semifinals, but he swam more than eight seconds slower here thanks to a quick turnaround following the 100 free.
