Joe Schilling addresses PFL Brussels stoppage: ‘I know exactly who I am’

by admin

Joe Schilling maintains he made the right call to walk out of his PFL Brussels fight.

Schilling (4-7) was on the receiving end of an illegal headbutt from Donegi Abena while on the ground during their fight at ING Arena in Belgium. The moment occurred just 37 seconds into the fight. Schilling became enraged and initially told referee Mike Beltran that he was done fighting.

Beltran proceeded to take one point from Abena (1-0), and wanted Schilling to understand that if he decided to stop the fight, he would be ruled the loser of the fight. After calming down for a moment, Schilling decided to continue. Beltran placed Schilling on the mat in the same position, which set Schilling off again, and called off the fight himself. Abena couldn’t have imagined his first win would come in that manner.

Schilling posted a short statement on Instagram, doubling down on his decision to walk out of the fight.

“One of the coolest moments of my life,” Schilling wrote. “Everything else is just noise. I know exactly who I am and so does my family. Most of you talking shit couldnt hold my jock strap. My opponent also now exactly who he is and that’s on him. God Bless”
