For months, league observers have expected Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future to be settled by the NBA Draft, whether that meant remaining with the Milwaukee Bucks or being traded elsewhere.
However, recent reporting suggests the situation may continue well beyond next week’s draft and potentially carry over into free agency.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Milwaukee has yet to receive a trade proposal that meets its expectations for the two-time MVP.
“So far, from what I’ve been told, the Bucks have yet to receive an offer they are willing to accept for Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Windhorst said Thursday on Get Up.
“Which is somewhat mirroring what happened at the trade deadline last February. Where they had the market open, didn’t agree to a deal, and ended up keeping Giannis.”
While the Bucks are reportedly hoping to complete a trade before draft night, Windhorst cautioned that there remains a realistic possibility that no acceptable deal emerges in time.
“While there is this deadline of the draft, and I’m told they intend to trade him by the draft, I think it’s possible, there’s some percentage chance, that they don’t find a deal that they like.”
Milwaukee faces added pressure because any 2026 draft picks acquired in a trade would need to be obtained before the draft in order for the Bucks to use those selections themselves.
