Dustin Poirier appreciates the support from the likes of Jon Jones, but doesn’t want to be pitied.
Former UFC dual-champion Jones came to Poirier’s defense after “The Diamond” was arrested two weeks ago for public drunkenness by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia.

“He didn’t hurt anybody,” Jones said. “You know, he was drunk. We’ve all been drunk. Alcohol makes you do silly things. It’s important for him to forgive himself and just keep moving forward. At the end of the day, no one really cares. No one really cares.”
Poirier, who has deleted all social media since the incident, refuses to play victim.
“My buddy, Kyle, the guy who I work out with everyday, he told me that Jon Jones came out and said something, and it was positive,” Poirier said in “The Diary of a CEO.” “He said Matt Brown as well, a former fighter, did a video, and he said it was really nice. I’m sure I’ll see some of that stuff. I don’t want to relive the moment that much. I don’t want to keep diving back. But when I do get back on social media or do start watching videos, I’m sure I’m going to see some of it.
“I appreciate everybody, but I’m not looking for sympathy or to make this OK. It’s not OK. It’s not. I don’t want to blame anything or have a crutch to lean on about my actions, about what happened. I did it. I’m not blaming it on mental health or anything like that, even though I’m focusing on that now. I did that. I decided to drink that day when I wasn’t feeling well. It’s all on me.”

Jones can relate to Poirier’s run-in with law. He’s been involved in several incidents, which includes pleading guilty after driving under the influence and negligent use of a firearm in 2020, to recently facing a criminal summons in which he was accused of fleeing the scene of an accident and leaving a half-clothed, intoxicated woman behind in February 2025. The charges were later dismissed.
