AJ Dybantsa has made his feelings clear about draft night and his mindset before going to team workouts. There have been some speculations about the teams with the top four picks. The Washington Wizards hold the top pick, but the franchise has been at the bottom of the table for a very long time. While some top picks, like Darryn Peterson, have not even preferred to work out with the Wizards, Dybantsa was only concerned about getting picked at the first spot.
Dybantsa’s versatility in playing any position on a team is his biggest strength. Moreover, the forward averaged 25.5 points and 6.8 rebounds, shooting 51% from the field, making him a scorer through and through. When NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith asked him about his mindset before working out with the team and expectations from the draft night, the BYU Cougars’ forward said:
“I want and expect to be No. 1. I visited multiple teams because you never know what can happen on the draft night, right? I was just being smart in my opinion. I want to get drafted No. 1, though.”
Smith also indirectly pitched the scenario in which the player might get acquired by a team that might not have a bright future in the league. Dybantsa responded:
“I mean both teams in the top two, I think I’ll bring similar things on the court and off the court, culture-wise, basketball-wise, I think I’m going to bring you know the same thing to both teams.”
Naming the top features he brings to the table for the top two teams, Dybantsa stated, “defensive impact, scoring, leadership at a young age.” The forward has every offensive tool in his arsenal, from step-back jumpers to dunks and three-pointers, with elite-level shot creation.

While Dybantsa expressed that his priority was to get selected first overall, his draft partner, Darryn Peterson, has openly kept his preferences, as he denied working out with the Washington Wizards and, afterwards, also refused to meet with the Utah Jazz.

AJ Dybantsa is a versatile 6-foot-9 forward who plays like a young LeBron James. When asked which players he looked up to and models his game around, the former Cougar said:
Dybantsa also named some young players, like Cooper Flagg, Jeremiah Fears, and Jordan Poole, who supported him in the process or worked out with him. He would be a serious offensive threat, whatever team he joins on draft day, as fans await the final matchups of one of the most talented rookie classes.
