The University of Akron men’s basketball team has recevied a commitment from another player ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Kamrin Oriol announced Thursday, Sept. 3, on social media he has committed to play at Akron.

Jon Rothstein, a college basketball writer with CBS Sports and FanDuel, said Sept. 3 that “Oriol is seeking a fifth year of eligibility.”
Oriol played the last two seasons at the University of North Florida, a Division I college in the Atlantic Sun Conference, after playing two seasons at The Master’s University, an NAIA school in Santa Clarita, California.
Oriol is a 6-foot-3, 187-pound guard from St. Petersburg, Fla., who was selected to the All-Atlantic Sun second team last season. He played in 32 games in 2025-26 (all starts) at North Florida, scored 670 points and averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 35.7 minutes a game. He shot 48.0% from the field, 40.2% from beyond the 3-point arc and 88.7% from the free-throw line.
Oriol played in 32 games in 2024-25 (no starts) at North Florida, scored 234 points and averaged 7.3 points, 1.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 20.9 minutes. He shot 37.1% from the field, 35.0% from beyond the 3-point arc and 77.8% from the free-throw line.

Oriol appeared in 32 games in 2023-24 (12 starts) at Master’s. He scored 491 points, and averaged 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29.8 minutes. He shot on 45.6% from the field, 37.8% on 3s and 84.2% from the free-throw line.

Oriol appeared in 18 games in 2022-23 (no starts) at Master’s and was named the Great Southwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. He scored 188 points, and averaged 10.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 21.9 minutes. He shot 39.1% from the field, 38.2% percent on 3s and 61.9% from the free-throw line.

Oriol played high school basketball at Admiral Farragut Academy, and surpassed 1,000 career points.
He is the seventh transfer to join Akron under first-year head coach Dustin Ford. The other six are 6-1 Tahj Staveskie, 6-10 Max Burton, 6-1 Exavier Wilson, 6-6 Colin White, 6-6 Ty Pence and 6-7 Buddy Hammer Jr.

Akron has played in the NCAA Tournament in four of the past five years after winning Mid-American Conference Tournament championships in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026 under John Groce, who left to become the College of Charleston coach in March.
