BYU basketball’s Big 12 schedule was released on Friday.

The Cougars’ 2026-27 conference slate is interesting to say the least. An immediate takeaway is January will be a huge month with five of the nine games on the road, including facing Arizona and Houston away from Provo. Kevin Young and his staff prepare for his third season with the program in search of another NCAA Tournament run.

Takeaways from BYU’s 2026-27 Big 12 schedule

The Cougars will play some of the best teams in the country from last season. Four opponents who finished last season in the AP Top 25, including No. 3 Arizona. The Wildcats are also one of three conference foes that will face BYU twice this season.

Arizona is coming off of a Big 12 championship and Final Four appearance. Tommy Lloyd stays in Tucson after speculation he would be headed to the NBA or another more high-profile job in college. BYU lost twice to Arizona last season, but came close to pulling off an upset.

The “Holy War on the Hardwood” will be a two-part event this season. BYU’s historic rivalry will be in Provo (Jan. 16) and Salt Lake City (Feb. 6).

Overall, BYU will play against nine NCAA Tournament teams from 2026. No doubt Arizona will once again be the toughest. Houston and Kelvin Sampson lost several key contributors to the NBA. But the Cougars also reloaded with some talent like guard Mercy Miller, who’s projected to be a full-time starter this season. Iowa State got eaten up by the transfer portal, while Kansas secured the nation’s top overall recruit, Tyran Stokes, to fill the void left by Darren Peterson.

The final three regular season games before the Big 12 tournament will be interesting. Travel will become a factor as well. BYU will be traveling back and forth from Orlando, Florida before doing the same in Lubbock, Texas all in the span of a week. One of the worst stretches right before setting up shop in Kansas City, Missouri for the conference tourney.
