The South Carolina women’s basketball team has been thriving under the leadership of head coach Dawn Staley for years.
Staley has been with the program since 2008 and has since established herself as one of the best coaches in women’s college basketball history.

After a season in which the South Carolina Gamecocks reached the national title game and ultimately suffered a loss to Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies, Staley received incredible recognition.
According to LuLu Kesin, a South Carolina women’s basketball reporter, the city of Columbia will soon unveil a statue honoring Staley.
“The City of Columbia will unveil the statue honoring South Carolina WBB coach Dawn Staley on Wednesday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m.,” Kesin said.
Since her arrival in the SEC program in 2008, Staley has led the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team to three national titles, seven Final Four appearances, nine SEC regular season championships, and nine SEC Tournament championships.

South Carolina defeated Tennessee Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Duke and Texas during March Madness.
While Staley and the Gamecocks prepare for the road to the national title game, the South Carolina head coach will be busy on Wednesday for the unveiling of her statue in the city of Columbia.
