ETRC: Kiss strengthens title lead at Lausitzring

by admin

Norbert Kiss extended his Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship lead with two dominant victories at the Lausitzring, as Steffi Halm impressed with consistent podium form to move into third in the standings after a weekend of competitive racing in Germany

Making its debut on the FIA ETRC calendar, the Lausitzring hosted the first of two German rounds scheduled on this year’s eight-event calendar and delivered a dramatic mix of action and attrition. The weekend began with local ace Jochen Hahn claiming pole in Qualifying 1, outpacing Kiss and raising hopes of challenging the Hungarian’s early-season dominance.

However, Kiss quickly reasserted his authority. He overtook Hahn early in Race 1 to take a commanding win and followed it up with a lights-to-flag victory from pole in Race 3.

Hahn, still seeking his first win of 2025, remained Kiss’s closest challenger. He finished second in both Hungarian’s victories while his qualifying form shows he remains a serious contender.

Making his series comeback aboard Kiss’ title-winning MAN truck, René Reinert delivered the standout performance of the weekend in Race 2, charging from fifth on the reverse grid to claim his first victory of the year. A decisive move on Mark Taylor midway through the race secured the lead, which he held to the flag to delight his home crowd.

Halm was once again a model of consistency, taking two podiums and fending off late pressure in Race 3.

Sascha Lenz, José Eduardo Rodrigues and Albacete were regulars in the midfield battles, with Lenz taking a Race 2 podium. Taylor again impressed with strong pace and racecraft despite focusing primarily on Chrome class honours.

Race 4 was cancelled following an earlier support series incident that left oil on the circuit. Following inspection and amid challenging weather conditions, the FIA Race Director deemed conditions unsafe and called off the final contest of the weekend.

With two rounds completed, Kiss leads the standings on 105 points, ahead of Hahn on 81 and Halm rounding out the top three with 65 points to her name.

The championship resumes with Round 3 at the Slovakia Ring on 7–8 June.
