Former Wisconsin basketball guard, leading scorer reenters transfer portal

Former Wisconsin guard A.J. Storr has reentered the transfer portal, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.

Storr spent the 2024-25 season at Kansas after a high-profile decision to transfer away from Wisconsin last offseason. The veteran guard struggled to find a consistent role with the Jayhawks, averaging just 15.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game while shooting a career-low 38.4% from the floor and 29% from 3.

His struggles coincided with a down year from the team. After entering the season ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll, it went just 21-13 (11-9 Big 12) and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Storr had some strong performances to close the campaign, including 19 points against UCF in the Big 12 Tournament and 15 against Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament. But the guard’s season was largely defined by an 18-game stretch from Jan. 8 to March 8 during which he surpassed double-digit points only once.

Assuming Storr doesn’t transfer back to Wisconsin or St. John’s, his first collegiate stop, next year will mark four teams in as many seasons for the former four-star recruit.

Storr was Wisconsin’s key transfer addition entering the 2023-24 season. Starting at guard for a team that had missed the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23, he averaged 16.8 points (team-high) and 3.9 rebounds in 28.8 minutes of action per game. His play on the offensive was a key reason for the Badgers’ 16-4 (8-1 Big Ten) start. However, the team would go on to lose seven of its last nine to close the regular season and fall in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Storr and star point guard Chucky Hepburn each transferred out following that final defeat.
