Geno Auriemma has always been known for his sense of humor and edgy remarks. UConn’s social media team shared a video of Coach Auriemma saying Sarah Strong is now three times as good as she was as a freshman.
However, just a few days later, a reporter asked about his comments, and he hilariously took a U-turn.
“I said what? She was three times better than she was… I don’t know, that’s a huge exaggeration, I think I must’ve been having gummies or something that day,” Auriemma joked.
“She was National Player of the Year; you know, and it’s pretty hard to get that much better. But it’s not that hard to get better at some things that she wants to get better at. And I think what we’ll see is a much more aggressive Sarah, much more intentional, much more understanding,” Auriemma said.
He also said that Strong realizes that she needs to be much more assertive going into her junior season. Auriemma believes there is much more to her game, even though what Strong has shown in her last two seasons is already incredible. He said he has already seen that potential in practice.

Strong went on to describe her game. She said that she likes to keep it simple. She doesn’t do anything flashy or too crazy. She likes to stay efficient.
