Following an All-Big Ten selection in her lone year with the Iowa Hawkeyes, star point guard Lucy Olsen now takes her talents to the WNBA, where she will do everything that she can to make a roster.
Lucy Olsen was selected by the Washington Mystics in this year’s WNBA draft with the No. 23 pick overall in the second round. The Mystics held five picks in the draft and are looking to add strong guard play with the addition of Olsen.

One of the better hauls of draft night, Washington has graded out as an A- in ESPN’s WNBA draft grades, which is bolstered by the Olsen selection.
Washington Mystics: A-
3: Sonia Citron, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, SG4: Kiki Iriafen, USC Trojans, PF6: Georgia Amoore, Kentucky Wildcats, PG23: Lucy Olsen, Iowa Hawkeyes, SG32: Zaay Green, Alabama Crimson Tide, PG
The top three here, of course, are the most likely to make an impact for a new-look Mystics franchise. Citron is an excellent defender and dependable scorer who brings Notre Dame’s famed “Guard U” prowess to the Mystics. Iriafen turned herself into a lottery pick with her junior and senior seasons. Amoore is small, but she is an offensive force and will do whatever is needed of her on defense.
But Connecticut’s depth impressed, too: Olsen excited Big Ten fans with her scoring ability in her one season at Iowa, and Green also had a big impact in her one season at Alabama. – Michael Voepel, ESPN
Lucy Olsen averaged 17.9 points per game for Iowa this year to go along with 5.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43.6% from the field and 36% from the three-point line.
Olsen finished the season playing her best basketball for Iowa, scoring at least 20 points in eight of their final 15 games, highlighted by 28 points against the USC Trojans and 32 points against Nebraska as Iowa found its stride before postseason play.
