Joey Logano Fires Back at Chipper Jones Over Profanity-Laced Tirade

by admin

The fallout from Joey Logano’s heated radio tirade at Talladega has crossed sports lines—and the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion isn’t backing down.

After Braves legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones criticized Logano’s outburst directed at Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric during Sunday's Jack Link’s 500, Logano fired back Tuesday during an appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“Has Chipper Jones ever driven a racecar at Talladega? That would be my first question,” Logano said bluntly. “I’m pretty certain he hasn’t.”

The controversy erupted near the end of Stage 2 at Talladega, when Logano lost the stage win to Bubba Wallace. Frustrated after Cindric checked up while trying to push him, Logano unleashed a profanity-laced tirade over the team radio.

“Way to go Austin, way to go, you dumb f***! Way to xxxxing go. What a stupid sxxx,” Logano shouted. “You just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job. What a dumbxxx.”

The clip quickly made the rounds, and Jones, an avid NASCAR fan, took to social media to take a shot at Logano while congratulating Cindric on his effort.

Logano’s message to the Hall of Famer? Stay in your lane.

“That’s like me saying something about baseball,” Logano said. “I know nothing about baseball. That’s like me criticizing something he did on the field. It doesn’t matter.”

For Logano, only the opinions inside the Penske camp carry weight—specifically the drivers, team principals, and crew chiefs who develop the strategy for superspeedway racing.

“No one else, nobody—Chipper Jones, race fans, whoever—was in the room when we come up with how we’re going to race at superspeedways,” Logano said. “Those are the only opinions that matter. Everyone else can talk, but they don’t know the situation.”

Logano did offer a backhanded compliment, calling Jones a “pretty popular, good baseball player,” but reiterated that the baseball icon lacked the necessary context to weigh in.

“You would think someone who’s been in professional sports, who’s been in meetings, would know there’s probably more to the story,” Logano said. “I’m surprised it went that way. Maybe he was just bored. I don’t know his situation. Either way, I tell you—I don’t care.”
