Johannes Voigtmann has officially retired from international basketball after making 128 appearances for the German national team.
“Very few players manage to stop at their peak. I think this is a very good moment for me,” the 33-year-old Bayern Munich forward said.
Voigtmann enjoyed a decorated international career, representing Germany at four EuroBaskets, two World Cups and two Olympic Games.
He helped his country capture the 2023 FIBA World Cup and EuroBasket 2025 titles, while also earning bronze at EuroBasket 2022.
He originally intended to step away from the national team following the 2024 Paris Olympics, but head coach Alex Mumbru convinced him to continue for another year.
Voigtmann’s final international tournament ended earlier than expected after he suffered a serious knee injury during the EuroBasket group stage.
Germany will honor Voigtmann before Thursday’s World Cup qualifying game against the Netherlands in Cologne.
