May 16—MITCHELL — First-year Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball coach Sam Nicholson will be joined on the Tigers’ bench by assistant coach Jordan Riewer, the program announced Friday.
Riewer joins the DWU staff having most recently served as an assistant at the University of Minnesota Duluth, an NCAA Division II institution. Prior to his single season in Duluth, Riewer, a native of Staples, Minnesota, started coaching the Minnesota Comets AAU program in 2019. He was also an assistant coach at Minnesota State University Moorhead, his alma mater, during the 2017-18 season.

“Jordan is a players’ coach who values player development and relationships deeply,” Nicholson said in a release. “He comes with great knowledge from playing and coaching in the NSIC, as well as playing professionally. Tie that with his strong Midwest recruiting ties, I don’t think we could have found a better person for the job.”
During his playing career for MSUM, Riewer earned the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference player of the year and Division II All-American honors in 2014-15. He still ranks second in NCAA history for career free-throw percentage at 94%. After his college career, Riewer went on to a professional basketball career overseas, including stops in Australia, Germany, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
