Marrit Steenbergen Tops 100 Free Rankings & Nyls Korstanje Sets Dutch 50 Fly Record At AP Race International

Marrit Steenbergen elevated herself to the top of the 100 free rankings in 52.77 on the final day of the AP Race London International 2025.

Out in 25.66 and back in 27.11, the Netherlands swimmer posted the fifth-fastest performance of her career topped by her Dutch record of 52.26 en-route to the world title in Doha last year. It was 0.21 swifter than her previous season’s best of 52.98 at the Giant Open earlier this month and her 11th journey inside 53secs. Steenbergen dislodged Gretchen Walsh atop the rankings with the USA swimmer having gone 52.90 at the TYR Pro Series in Fort Lauderdale. Britain’s Eva Okaro was second in 54.66 with Martine Damborg of Denmark third in 54.98.

Nyls Korstanje followed his Netherlands teammate to the top of the 2025 standings in the 50 fly with a Dutch record of 22.72. The two-time world relay medallist sliced 0.16 from the previous standard of 22.88 he set first at the 2022 European Championships in Rome and subsequently matched at the Rotterdam Qualification Meet in December 2024. With that he sits atop the rankings, 0.05 quicker than Noè Ponti and his 22.77 at the Swiss Championships. Ralf Tribuntsov was second in 23.41, 0.04 ahead of Britain’s Jacob Peters (22.45).

Lukas Märtens came into the final day at the London Aquatics Centre with a 3:42.98 victory in the 400 free as well as the 200 back title to post 1:46.73 in the 200 free prelims.

Come the final event of the three-day meet and it was 2015 world champion James Guy who led the German by 0.31 at the final turn with Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Duncan Scott a further 0.02 behind. Scott moved past both men to win in 1:46.15 ahead of Märtens (1:46.34) and Jack McMillan, who came from fifth to third in 1:46.40. Guy (1:46.73) and Paris silver medallist Matt Richards (1:46.81) made it five men on 1:46 with the quintet separated by 0.66.

Florian Wellbrock continued the fine meet for the German contingent when he won the 800 free in 7:45.63, his third fastest of the season. Teammate Oliver Klemet was second in 7:48.61 as the pair reversed the outcome of the 1500 which Klemet won in 14:41.91 on the opening day of the meet.

Isabel Gose added the 800 free to her 400 title and 1500 silver in 8:25.43 ahead of Moesha Johnson who clocked 8:26.32. The pair have had some fine tussles in London with the Australian having won the longest race in the pool ahead of Gose as well as taking two second places behind the German. Lily Gormsen of the USA was third in 8:50.78.

Corbeau, Vanotterdijk & Morgan Among The Winners

Caspar Corbeau posted the third-fastest 200m breaststroke of his career with a clear win in 2:08.21, 0.31 off his 2:07.90 PB as he won bronze at Paris 2024. Filip Nowacki – who won two medals at the British Championships – was second home in 2:10.53 with Luka Mladenovic completing the podium places in 2:11.79.

Roos Vanotterdijk led throughout to win the 100 fly in 57.46 ahead of Keanna MacInnes (57.96) and Rikako Ikee (58.26). Vanotterdijk has been rewriting the Belgian records this year and matched her 50 back standard in 27.81 on the opening day.

Ollie Morgan lowered the British 100 back record to 52.12 in the same pool last month at British trials. On Sunday he took the title in 53.32 ahead of Miroslav Knedla (53.74) and Jack Skerry (54.24).

Olympic finalist Honey Osrin led a British clean sweep of the 200 back podium. Katie Shanahan was 0.08 at the final turn with Osrin coming past on the last 50 to win in 2:09.28 to 2:09.97 with Holly McGill third in 2:10.59. Shanahan and McGill are Singapore-bound for the World Championships in July while Osrin will compete in the European U23 Championships.

Abbie Wood led home a British 1-2-3 in the 200IM. Wood – who has two top-five Olympic finishes in the event – won in 2:09.62 ahead of Freya Colbert (2:11.79) and Shanahan who returned from her 200 back silver to finish third in 2:14.30.

Eneli Jefimova clinched the 50/100 breaststroke double with a clear one-length victory in 30.02, a day after she set an Estonian record of 1:05.81 in the longer race. Florine Gaspard added silver to her 50 free title in 30.72 with Britain’s Jasmine Carter next home in 31.42.
