When a team opens its season without a loss over the first week or so, then it probably feels confident and comfortable. Throw out the comfortable tag when it comes to the Minnesota Lynx.

The Lynx, who are now 7-0 in the young WNBA season, want more. They defeated the Golden State Valkyries 86-75 on Sunday night, extending their perfect start.

Napheesa Collier remains the team’s biggest star. Yet even Collier can get some heat from Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve at times.

Reeve, though, wasn’t totally happy with her team’s effort against Golden State.

“That’s the thing with expectations — we have to do more because our goals are high,” Reeve said after Sunday’s win, ESPN reported.

Napheesa Collier shook off rough start, finished with 24 points for Minnesota Lynx

Collier finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds against the Valkyries. She got off to a rough start before kicking it into high gear in the second half. Courtney Williams scored 20 points in 26 minutes for Minnesota.

“We don’t want to be pedestrian at anything we do,” Reeve said. “There are times in the game we go through stretches where we’re just not intentional. We don’t recognize how hard it is to win possession in this league and what it takes. Being more consistent in that mindset is what we’re looking for.”

Williams knows that the Lynx need to be more intentional and focused in their on-court play.

“It’s a matter of us locking in,” she said. “We need to bring it every night. I think sometimes we take that for granted. We’ve got to stop doing that. If we want to accomplish the goals we have for ourselves, we can’t be a second-half team.”

With the Lynx off to this 7-0 start, it’ll be interesting to see how far Minnesota can go before recording its first loss.
