New faces triumph in tough conditions at U15 Gymnasiade

Junior archers from seven nations took medals in competition at the Zlatibor 2025 ISF U15 Gymnasiade, held in Serbia from April 4 – April 14 2025.

The biannual multi-sport schools competition began in 2021 and is overseen by the International School Sport Federation. This edition featured 25 sports including four para-sports – although not para-archery. Over 3,500 athletes competed in the 2025 edition.

It is related to the much longer running biannual U18 World School Summer Games multi-sport competition, also run by the ISF.

Fifteen nations sent youth archers to compete in Serbia, in snowy conditions. China led the medal table overall, taking individual gold in both recurve categories with Zhang Minghao and Liu Han winning the men’s and women’s U15 respectively.

Youth archers from Iran won individual compound, with Mehrdad Behrouzi taking the men’s and Helia Hazratian taking the women’s U15 honours. Helia and Mehrdad also took the mixed team compound title.

The team titles were split across China, Chinese Taipei, Turkiyë and Iran, with Estonia and Serbia also taking medals. The compound category only saw a mixed team event at this edition.

The competition will return in 2027, with a host country yet to be determined.
