While many Strength & Conditioning coaches aren’t viewed as big components for a basketball program, Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry thinks much differently about the position.
Over the weekend, the Irish hired Jon Sanderson to lead their S&C program, as he is viewed as one of best around the country. The Ohio State alum started his career at North Carolina before heading to Marshall then Clemson, but had been leading Michigan’s program for 15-years, then recently leaving the program to take over duties at Vanderbilt last season.

Sanderson helped the Wolverines make five-straight Sweet 16’s, making it to the Elite Eight four of those times. According to Notre Dame’s press release, he’s the only person to make the Final Four as a player and coach.
Shrewsberry knows that this coming season will be extremely important in his Notre Dame career, after compiling 28-38 record over his first two years. This hire of Sanderson could push the Irish over the hump, and hopefully make a return to the NCAA Tournament this fall.
