Rylan Griffen reveals intention to transfer from Kansas basketball to Texas A&M

LAWRENCE — Rylan Griffen’s college journey is taking him back to the Southeastern Conference, after one year in the Big 12 Conference with Kansas basketball.

Griffen, who entered the transfer portal following the 2024-25 season with the Jayhawks, has committed to Texas A&M — according to multiple reports Friday. On his Instagram story, Griffen shared one of those reports — from On3 — and reactions from people to that news. Texas A&M’s men’s basketball account on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, also reposted a post from On3 with that news, too.

Griffen arrived at Kansas ahead of this past season after a pair of seasons at Alabama, including a run to the Final Four in 2024. However, with the 6-foot-6 and 190-pound guard the aspirations the Jayhawks had for comparative success in the 2025 NCAA tournament weren’t realized. Although he became a regular starter at KU as a junior, the 3-point shooting prowess he possessed didn’t always translate to the court and he finished the season on a disappointing shooting slump as the team exited the NCAA tournament with a loss in the round of 64.

Griffen now looks to join a Texas A&M program that will be in the first year of a new head coach. Bucky McMillan recently took over after a stint as the head coach at Samford. That would give the Aggies a pair of former Jayhawks, as forward Zach Clemence elected to transfer from Kansas to Texas A&M after this past season as well.
