Tennessee basketball’s way-too-early top 25 ranking for 2025-26 season

The 2024-25 men’s college basketball season came to an end Monday. Florida defeated Houston, 65-63, in the NCAA Tournament national championship game at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Tennessee finished its 2024-25 campaign with a 30-8 (12-6 SEC) record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. The Vols have advanced to the Elite Eight in back-to-back seasons under head coach Rick Barnes.

The 2025-26 season will be Barnes’ 11th with the Vols. He has compiled a 232–107 (111–66 SEC) record and guided Tennessee to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

With Barnes advancing the Vols to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2025, he will receive a $200,000 bonus.

Following Monday’s national championship game, ESPN released way-too-early top 25 rankings for the 2025-26 basketball season. Tennessee is ranked No. 21. Kentucky is the highest ranked SEC team at No. 6.
