Khamzat Chimaev, UFC 328 media workout interview
-
Record: 15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC
-
Opponent: Sean Strickland (30-7 MMA, 17-7 UFC)
-
Key wins: Dricus du Plessis, Robert Whittaker, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Holland, Gilbert Burns, Li Jingliang, Gerald Meerschaert
-
Misc.: Chimaev’s first title defense, some are predicting, will be a miracle to take place given the heat between him and Strickland at commit-actual-murder-with-a-gun levels. But let’s pretend it’ll go off without a hitch. It’ll be Chimaev’s first defense of the strap after he dominated Dricus du Plessis at UFC 319 to win it. The Chechnyan has seven post-fight bonuses in his nine walks to the cage in the UFC.
Main event: Sean Strickland

Record: 30-7 MMA, 17-7 UFC
-
Opponent: Khamzat Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC)
-
Misc.: After he upset Adesanya to win the middleweight title, Strickland lost it in his first attempted defense to Dricus du Plessis. He rebounded with a win over Paula Costa and got a rematch with DDP, but lost another decision. It probably should’ve taken him longer to get another crack at the belt, but his dominant win over Hernandez in February and the heat the UFC brass knew he’d generate with Chimaev made him a hard-to-resist choice for another title shot.
Co-main event: Joshua Van
Joshua Van, UFC 323
-
Record: 16-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC
-
Opponent: Tatsuro Taira (18-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC)
-
Misc.: Van’s first title defense after his win over Pantoja won’t come in a rematch with the ex-champ, who suffered an injury 26 seconds into their fight that caused his loss. Instead, he gets Taira who will have the rare

Record: 18-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC
-
Opponent: Joshua Van (16-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC)
-
Key wins: Brandon Moreno, Park Hyun-sung, Alex Perez
-
Misc.: Taira was on the cusp of a title shot once before and dropped a split decision to Brandon Royval. But 2025 was a big bounce-back year when he submitted Park Hyun-sung in August, then knocked out former champ Brandon Moreno at UFC 323 in December. With Alexandre Pantoja not ready to return for a rematch with Van, Taira was a more-than-deserving challenger choice.
