The Valkyries were way ahead of schedule, winning the much-coveted trophy in just their second year in the league.
Gabby Williams lifted Golden State in Game 7, scoring 28 of her 30 points in the second half. She also had three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and four blocks in a masterful performance. She was named Finals MVP after averaging 19.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.6 steals.

On Monday, she revealed that some guy congratulated her.
“Michael Jordan texted me this morning. That was awesome,” said Williams in the video posted by 95.7 The Game.
The 30-year-old Williams signed with Jordan Brand in 2023. She wore the Air Jordan 41 in the WNBA Finals.

For any player, getting recognized by Jordan is a validation. Williams likely felt the same, especially since the narrative that hounded the Valkyries was that they were a bunch of no-names.
In the offseason, the two-time All-Star left the Seattle Storm and joined Golden State, instantly becoming the team’s two-way weapon and emotional leader.

Aside from Jordan, she said her former teammates also greeted her after the Valkyries won their maiden title.
“Having so many past teammates who genuinely followed my trajectory reached out to me. That meant a lot to me,” said Williams, who starred at Connecticut before becoming the No. 4 pick in the WNBA Draft in 2018.

She became only the second player in league history to score 30 points in a winner-take-all game in the WNBA Finals after Penny Taylor did it for the Phoenix Mercury in 2007.
