WNBA star Sophie Cunningham shared a pretty alarming story of how her recent rise in fame has also led to her having an increased number of stalkers.
Cunningham has been a notable role player in the WNBA since 2019, but she became a household name in U.S. sports media over the summer of 2026 for her outspoken stance against trans athletes in the WNBA.

With Cunningham invariably creating a group of diehard fans around her play and off-court opinions, it has caused some personal distress to her in recent months.
Sophie Cunningham reveals her stalker situation
In a recent podcast with comedian Theo Von, Cunningham revealed that she has seen an increased number of stalkers, with the FBI currently monitoring at least 20 people closely for her safety.
“We do have a lot of stalkers. I know I do. That’s a negative side of things that people don’t think about. I think I have like 20 people that the FBI are watching for me. Me alone.”
“I know one of them. He’s locked away now. His name’s Kevin. The worst part about that is I have a miniature donkey named Kevin, and now I’m like, do I need to rename Kevin?”
Cunningham’s fans on social media have proven to be quite rabid, so it is not surprising to see some turning their fandom into such aggressive forms. It should be concerning to Cunningham given the unpredictability of stalker behaviour, but at least she is being monitored by law enforcement.

Cunningham averaged 7.9 points on 41.1% from three last season with the Indiana Fever. Her popularity initially received a major boost since she joined the Fever and became Caitlin Clark’s teammate before her political opinions allowed her to create a much stronger identity.
With her entering WNBA free agency in the offseason, it will be fascinating to see where he ends up next. With her fame standing on its own two feet without the Fever or Clark involved, she might attract a lot of attention in free agency on name value alone.
