The Olympic archery competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will take place at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, the organising committee revealed on 15 April.
The announcement comes just days after confirmation that compound archery will feature at the Games for the first time, with a mixed team event set to debut on the Olympic programme.
The iconic venue, best known as the home of the LA Galaxy soccer team, is a state-of-the-art sports complex with a rich sporting legacy. Its main stadium, which hosted the final of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup, will provide a fitting stage to highlight the precision and drama of Olympic archery.
The complex boasts an 8,000-seat tennis stadium, a 27,000-seat arena for soccer, football and outdoor concerts, a 2,000-seat track and field facility, as well as a 2,450-seat indoor velodrome for track cycling. It also serves as the national training centre for tennis and a hub for the national soccer association.
Following the rugby sevens tournament, the main stadium at Dignity Health Sports Park will be transformed to host archery, while the wider complex will also stage Olympic competitions in track cycling, hockey and tennis.
The addition of the compound mixed team event to the LA28 programme has generated immense excitement within the archery community, with anticipation building ahead of its Olympic debut.
World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen expressed his enthusiasm, saying:
“LA28 promises to be a landmark event for archery. Dignity Health Sports Park is a fantastic choice, and we are confident that it will provide the perfect stage for our athletes to showcase their skills and inspire a new generation of archers.”
“The addition of the compound mixed team event, at the request of World Archery, is a significant milestone for our sport and the result of 12 years of work, and we look forward to seeing it debut on the Olympic stage.”
The LA28 Games will stage events throughout the city and its surroundings, pairing world-class sport with iconic Californian backdrops. Archery’s inclusion in this prestigious line-up highlights the sport’s growing popularity and global appeal.
