Kelsey Plum and the Los Angeles Sparks opened up their 2025 WNBA regular season on Friday night against the Golden State Valkyries. The season started off with a bang.
In game one of the year, the Sparks won by a final score of 84-67.

After spending the last six years with the Las Vegas Aces, Plum started off her tenure in Los Angeles on the right foot. She scored 37 points on 11-for-19 shooting, including 4-for-6 from the 3-point line, and also made all 11 of her free throw attempts. Plum also dished six assists and recorded five steals.
Not only was it a big game from Plum, she also broke a record. As shared by the WNBA, Plum now holds the record for most points in a season opener.
“Earlier tonight, Napheesa Collier tied W legends Maya Moore, Candace Parker, and Katie Smith for the most points in a season opener,” the post read. “By the end of the night Kelsey Plum broke the record with 37.”
Following the huge broken record from Plum, fans immediately took to the comments to share their thoughts on her achievement.

After finishing the 2024 WNBA season with an 8-32 record and a last place finish in the league, Plum is looking to turn things around. She’s off to a great start, but has a lot of work to do.
Plum and the Sparks will play game two of the season on Sunday night at home against the Minnesota Lynx. The game will tip off at 6 p.m. ET.
