One of the top prospects in the 2026 class will visit the Texas Longhorns this weekend. Four-star defensive lineman James Johnson, who was supposed to visit Syracuse, will instead be in Austin. The Longhorns will now have a chance to show Johnson what his future with the Longhorns could hold.
Currently, Johnson is ranked as the 90th best player in the national in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 11th-best player from Florida. Due to his stellar play, Johnson has drawn interest from Florida State, Florida, Miami, and Georgia. It now seems that the Longhorns are near the top of his list.

This weekend, Johnson will surrounded by some of the best recruits in the nation. That includes five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson, who was added to the visitor list on Wednesday. A tandem of Johnson and Atkinson would create headaches for offensive coordinators. The goal for the Longhorns will be to give both pitches they can’t turn down.
The Longhorns 2026 class is currently ranked as one of the top in the nation. They have already gotten commitments from Dia Bell, Jermaine Bishop Jr., Dylan Berymon, and Chris Stewart. That list could continue to grow with plenty of talent still available.
During the recruiting process, Johnson visited Georgia, Florida, Florida State, and Miami. With no commitment date set, it could be a few weeks before the world finds out where Johnson ends up. Until his final decision comes, Johnson will be a player to watch.

It is a good sign for the Longhorns that Johnson has prioritized going to Austin over visiting another program.
