It’s been a great few months to be a Virginia Tech football fan. Back in November, the Hokies hired James Franklin as the new head football coach. Fans watched in amazement as Franklin took a recruiting class ranked in the 100s and furiously added players over the final few weeks ahead of national signing day in December. The Hokies finished with a top-25 class.
Franklin continued that momentum in January, with one of the better transfer portal classes, led by his former Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer.

Since March, Franklin has been working on the 2027 recruiting class, and he’s off to a great start. Since edge rusher Alexander Taylor jumped onboard on March 19, the Hokies have added 13 verbal commitments for 2027, headlined by one of the country’s top quarterbacks, Peter Bourque.
Four-star offensive lineman Kaden Buchanan is scheduled to announce his college decision on Monday at 2:00 p.m. ET, live on the CBS Sports YouTube channel.
The 6-foot-4, 328-pound Buchanan has plenty of offers, but will decide between Kentucky, NC State and Virginia Tech. A native of Lebanon, Tenn., Buchanan plays at Friendship Christian School. He is considered one of the top 247 players in the 2027 class, per 247Sports, and the No. 11 player in Tennessee. If the Hokies land Buchanan, he’d be the first offensive line commitment for 2027, after the Hokies took several in the 2026 class.
