The Texas Longhorns just got a massive win in the 2027 recruiting class, and it was over some of the best programs in the sport.
The Texas Longhorns aren’t making any major headlines with their recruiting, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t recruiting well. They have the No. 10 class in the 2027 recruiting cycle, with potential to finish higher.
But, they don’t care about ratings or any of that stuff. Head coach Steve Sarkisian, who’s always been a good recruiter, values players and tape above everything else. But man, you can’t say they weren’t excited to land four-star defensive tackle Kasi Currie this week, as he could become a five-star by the time he gets on campus.

And to make things even better, the Longhorns won Currie in a tight recruiting battle. However, they won him over some of the best teams and programs in the entire country. According to Rivals, Texas beat out Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon for Currie. Two of those are recent National Champions. One of them are a College Football Playoff team the last two years in a row. It’s not like Texas needed a win like that to improve its program or make anyone in the fan base feel better-they’re an elite program, too. But it’s a big win nonetheless.
So, what are the Longhorns getting in Currie? Rivals recruiting expert Greg Biggins broke it down perfectly.

Four-star defensive tackle Kasi Currie scouting report
“Among the more versatile two-way linemen in the country. Played predominantly defensive tackle his first two years at Sierra Canyon and showed an ideal combination of size, length, and raw power. Big space eater in the middle of the defensive line, capable of taking on a double team, standing his ground, and still making plays. Shows some raw pass rush ability, featuring a strong bull rush and a quick first step, and could play as a true nose guard or a traditional tackle in a 4-man front. He has massive features, including 35″ arms and 11” hands, and is still growing into his body. He’s also young for his grade and will play his entire senior year as a 17-year-old.
“In a recent viewing, it looks significantly quicker and plays with more burst and twitch. In an interesting development, Currie moved to offensive tackle as a junior and was dominant. One college coach told us he would be the top offensive guard on their board if he were committed to playing on the OL at the college level. He’s a fluid mover with great feet and some nastiness. We know Currie prefers defensive tackle, and that’s where he’s primarily being recruited, but it does show what kind of all-around talent he is as a dominant player on both sides of the ball.” – Greg Biggins, Rivals
