Auburn stays put in USA TODAY Sports re-rank despite shakeup across college football

by admin

The bye week saved Auburn football from experiencing a shakeup in the latest USA TODAY Sports re-rank.

Due to the Tigers’ spending a weekend away from competition, they will remain No. 48 in this week’s ranking compiled by USA TODAY Sports college football reporter Paul Myerberg. The likes of Texas, Florida State, and Penn State were not so lucky, as each of those teams fell at least 16 spots in this week’s update.

Penn State and Florida State have dropped two games in a row, and their rankings have suffered as a result. One week after losing a heartbreaker at home to Oregon during its “white out” game, Penn State fell on the road at previously winless UCLA, 42-37, dropping 36 spots to No. 45. As for Florida State, the Seminoles’ loss to Miami knocked them out of the US LBM Coaches Poll, and down to No. 35, a 23-spot decrease.

Texas lost its SEC opener last Saturday at Florida, 29-21. Longhorns‘ quarterback Arch Manning completed just 55% of his passes in the loss, completing 16-of-29 passes for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Texas dropped 16 spots to No. 33 while Florida moved up eight places to No. 56 following the win.

Georgia, Auburn’s next opponent, fell two places to No. 9 in this week’s ranking despite winning convincingly over Kentucky, 35-14. The fall is mostly due to Alabama‘s win over Vanderbilt, which advanced them five places to No. 8, one spot ahead of Georgia, and Indiana moving up to No. 7 ahead of its matchup with Oregon.

The Tigers and Bulldogs will face off on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
