Championship expectations facing Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever ahead of WNBA season tipoff

by admin

After a rookie year for the history books, former Iowa Hawkeyes star guard Caitlin Clark enters her second season in the WNBA with expectations only continuing to grow.

The early MVP betting favorite, Caitlin Clark, and the Indiana Fever are looking to take things to the next level by becoming a player in the WNBA playoffs and championship conversation.

With a revamped roster that features even more talent, the Fever and Clark are now staring down championship expectations this year as their biggest question ahead of the season.

Are the Fever championship contenders? They’ve gotten closer. With a new brain trust — including coach Stephanie White back in Indiana — and big offseason pickups, the Fever are set up to build on last year’s return to the playoffs. Bonner and Howard are former WNBA champions who bring a huge amount of experience. Sophie Cunningham is another perimeter scoring threat. Clark and Boston, the last two WNBA Rookie of the Year award winners, clicked well last season with each other and veteran guard Mitchell and should be even better in 2025. A championship is an exceedingly high expectation, but sticking around for a while in the playoffs is not. — Voepel

Many may not expect the Fever to have a chance to win a championship, but that same thought process was applied when Caitlin Clark was at Iowa before leading them to two consecutive Final Four runs.

With the WNBA season rapidly approaching its tip, the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark are facing expectations that should be embraced.
