The Chicago Cubs today reinstated right-handed pitcher Edward Cabrera from the 15-day injured list. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Trent Thornton has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left ankle sprain.
Cabrera was placed on the injured list on August 17 with a right middle finger blister. In 15 starts with the Cubs this season, Cabrera is 5-5 with a 5.68 ERA (48 ER/76.0 IP) and 67 strikeouts. The righty made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa, allowing six earned runs in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Thornton is 5-5 with three saves, a 3.35 ERA (18 ER/48.1 IP) and 31 strikeouts in 48 relief appearances with the Cubs this season.
