ESPN names one Notre Dame true-freshman, WR Elijah Burress, as one to watch this fall

Notre Dame football had a great 2025 recruiting class, one that ranked as the No. 12 class in the country by the 247Sports Composite.

Many of them will contribute early in their Irish careers, but ESPN believes that one can make an impact this fall, wide receiver Elijah Burress. While the son of former NFL star Plaxico wasn’t named as on of their top-10 impact first-year players, he was named to their watch list.

The 6-foot, 1-inch and 170-pound Burress wasn’t the highest ranked prospect in Notre Dame’s class, but he brings a pedigree that many don’t have. During his final high school season, he caught 37 receptions for 960 yards and 15 touchdowns according to MaxPreps, video game numbers. An average of 25.9 yards-per-catch is extremely impressive, and that is the kind of production that many would love to have.

Burress enrolled in January, with the expectation that he could see the field early. If ESPN is correct, that move will pay off for him, and for Notre Dame this year.
