Everyone is going to have an opinion on how Notre Dame football should handle its spring quarterback battle, and now former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy has thrown in his two cents on the situation.
The current Fox Sports analyst is extremely high on what Steve Angeli could do for the Irish if he wins the starting job. McElroy thinks that the ceiling is “outrageously high” for one of the main competitors for the job as he explained in his Always College Football podcast.

He postulates that is Angeli could have an “awakening” that could result in a Joe Burrow-type situation for Notre Dame. McElroy noted that during his first season at LSU, Burrow was “just a guy,” which is how he sees the Irish’s potential starter.
The light turned on for Burrow in his final year, leading the Tigers to a National Championship win and also taking home the Heisman Trophy. McElroy believes that could be how Angeli turns out this fall, especially if the offense is catered to his strengths.
I don’t think anyone would complain is Angeli turned out to have a Burrow-like season this fall, as the results of that could push Notre Dame over the edge and end a title drought that has lasted since the 1988 season.
Now former Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard just can’t stay away from the program
