India’s Kushal Dalal took his second Asia Cup compound title of the year at the second leg of the competition at the Bukit Gombak Stadium in Singapore, beating Australia’s Joshua Mahon in the final, 149-143.
The 149 was his best performance of the week. “It means a lot to me because I am twice an Asia Cup champion now, and it is continuous. It wasn’t my best performance. I thought I could shoot 150 but I dropped a point,” said Dalal.
In hot, humid and rainy conditions, Dalal was dominant in his defence of the title he won in Bangkok, apart from a scare against Muhammad Aiman Syafiq Mohd Tariki of Malaysia in the last eight where he had to edge a shoot-off to survive.
“It was easy for me to shoot in the wind and in rainy weather, because we were training in the same weather also.” His compatriot Tejal Rajendra Salve won the compound women’s title in an all-Indian final against Shanmukhi Naga Sai Budde.
Dalal was also part of the India’s compound men’s team that contested the gold final, as well as the mixed team gold final with Budde, but in both cases India had to settle for a silver medal behind Kazakhstan. India’s compound women’s team also lost a gold final in a shoot-off to Malaysia.
