Real Madrid are the EuroLeague SuperCup champions, defeating Olympiacos 93–89 in a thrilling final in Abu Dhabi.
The victory was especially significant for Madrid, as Olympiacos were the same team that defeated them in the EuroLeague Final earlier this year. This time, however, Real Madrid turned the tables and came out on top when it mattered most.
Madrid made a strong start, taking a 24–15 lead after the first quarter. Olympiacos responded in the second period, winning it 28–23, but Real Madrid still went into halftime with a 47–43 advantage.
The third quarter remained extremely competitive, with Olympiacos edging it 29–28. Real Madrid entered the final ten minutes with a narrow 75–72 lead and managed to stay composed under pressure. The Spanish side won the fourth quarter 18–17, securing a dramatic 93–89 victory.
The triumph in Abu Dhabi is even more special because this was the first-ever EuroLeague SuperCup tournament, making Real Madrid the inaugural champions of the competition.
After losing to Olympiacos in the EuroLeague Final, Madrid have now responded in the best possible way — by defeating the same opponent and lifting the first SuperCup trophy in Abu Dhabi.
After the historic victory, Facundo Campazzo from Real Madrid reflected on what the triumph and the inaugural tournament meant to the team:
“Yes, this was the first time this tournament was played and I am glad we are the ones who win that, especially this early in the season. We will cherish this and hopefully continue to work more and more so we can fulfill our goals – and that is the winning of all league we are participating”, said Campazzo after his team made the history in Abu Dhabi.
