SMU guard Nya Robertson commits to Kim Caldwell, Lady Vols basketball out of transfer portal

The Forth Worth, Texas, native is the first commitment out of the transfer portal for Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell following the Lady Vols’ run to the Sweet 16.

Robertson is a great fit for Caldwell’s system. She also fills a need for Tennessee, which lost its top three 3-point shooters to graduation. Robertson has shot 33.2% on 3-pointers in her career, which started at George Washington. She averaged 2.4 made 3-pointers and 7.3 attempts per game over the last three seasons.

Robertson can get downhill and score, and she also gets herself to the free-throw line frequently as a 75.7% career shooter. She went 111-for-145 this season, a career-high in attempts and makes, while shooting a career-best 76.6%.

Robertson was the A-10 Sixth Woman of the Year as a freshman in 2022-23 and was an A-10 All-Conference third team selection as a sophomore. She averaged 14.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and two assists as a freshman and 16.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists as a sophomore.

The Lady Vols have only lost two players to the transfer portal, and both had limited roles. Junior guard Avery Strickland entered the portal as a grad transfer on April 3 and fifth-year senior forward Favor Ayodele entered the transfer portal on April 9. Strickland averaged 5.8 minutes and Ayodele averaged 5.7 minutes.
