Kazakhstan’s Ilfat Abdullin topped the recurve men’s field at the second leg of the Asia Cup in Singapore on Monday with a score of 681 – nine points clear of Liu Tai-Yen of Chinese Taipei, who took bronze at the first leg in Bangkok in February.
The 27-year-old Abdullin, twice an Olympian, has previously recorded his best individual international results at Asia Cup competitions, winning stages in 2019 and 2022 and taking silver last year in Suwon.
The women’s roster was led by Ariana Nur Diana Mohamad Zairi, with 670. The Malaysian archer previously won the continental olympic qualifier in 2023, securing herself a ticket to Paris 2024 in the process.
She finished four points ahead of teammate Syaqiera Mashayikh, pushing the Malaysian women to third seed in the team event – ahead of China and Indonesia.
India topped both compound qualifying lists, with Kushal Dalal leading the men on 714 and Shanmukhi Naga Sai Budde atop the women’s field with 706. Dalal won gold at the first Asia Cup of the year.
As usual in Singapore in June, conditions were both hot and humid, with relatively light winds.
Competition continues on Tuesday with individual eliminations, including semifinals, followed by team matches through to the bronze medal matches on Wednesday.
Finals will take place on Friday and will be streamed on archery+.
