Kevin Durant has set his sights on a role beyond the court, saying one of his main goals is to become the general manager of Team USA for an Olympic Games. Durant made the comments on Boardroom while reflecting on the new ambitions he has developed throughout his career.
“Every day, I think about new things that I want to do,” Durant said. “One of my main goals is to be the GM of Team USA, for one of these Olympics one of these years.”
Durant would bring four Olympic gold medals and a FIBA World Cup gold medal to any future Team USA front-office role. He won Olympic championships with the United States at the 2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Games.
The 37-year-old has also been part of Team USA’s senior national team for multiple international competitions, including the 2010 World Championship in Turkey. His international experience spans more than a decade and includes a leading role in four Olympic gold-medal teams.
Durant’s playing career has given him extensive experience alongside elite NBA talent. He has shared Team USA rosters with players including LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Anthony Davis, while also competing against many of the league’s top players throughout his 18 NBA seasons.
His NBA résumé includes one MVP award, two Finals MVP awards, 15 All-Star selections and 11 All-NBA selections. Durant has also averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists over 1,201 regular-season games, shooting 50.3% from the field, 39.2% from three-point range and 88.2% from the free-throw line.
Durant remained a high-level scorer during the 2025-26 season with Houston. He averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 78 games, shooting 52.0% from the field, 41.3% from three and 87.4% from the free-throw line.
Durant’s potential transition into a Team USA front-office position would come after he has already established himself as one of the country’s most decorated Olympic basketball players. He currently has four Olympic gold medals, the most recent coming at the 2024 Paris Games.
Team USA’s next men’s Olympic basketball tournament will be at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Durant’s comments do not establish a timeline for a potential front-office appointment, but they identify the Olympic program as a specific career goal beyond his playing career.
