On Friday, USC announced the hire of Lonnie Maddox as its associate director of football sports performance. Maddox comes over from Kansas State alongside Trumain Carroll, whom the Trojans hired as their director of football sports performance last week.
Following the news being made official, Maddox shared a statement on social media.

“My family and I are beyond grateful to Coach Lincoln Riley, Coach Tru and the USC Football family for this opportunity,” Maddox wrote. “The grease is about to get hot in Cali. #FightOn“
Prior to his time with the Wildcats, Maddox served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Division II Valdosta State and FCS Alcorn State. At Valdosta State, he oversaw all 14 varsity sports. In 2024, he joined Carroll’s staff at Kansas State, and now comes over to USC alongside him.
In years past, the Trojans have often been the less physical team along the line of scrimmage. USC is now on its fifth different strength and conditioning coach since 2018. Fans are certainly hoping that Carroll is the one who can finally get the program back to playing the caliber of physical football the Trojans were known for in their heyday.
