Former NBA star Paul Pierce said he would end a relationship if his girlfriend went to jail, regardless of how long she was detained.
During a conversation with Azar Farideh, Pierce explained that he considers an arrest a serious issue in a relationship and would not make exceptions even for a short stay in jail.
“If a girl [I’m] with go to jail, it’s over. What are you going to jail for? I don’t care how long you go. You go to jail for the weekend, we done. We done,” Pierce said.
Farideh questioned whether he would maintain that position if his girlfriend were arrested for a driving-related incident.
“Even if she went to jail for the one weekend ‘cause she was driving?” Farideh asked.
Pierce insisted that his decision would remain the same, arguing that such behavior could lead to further problems.
“You blew me. You going to jail, then you going to go to jail again. You putting us in danger,” Pierce responded.
Farideh then shared her own concerns about being arrested.
“I never want to go to jail. That’s my biggest fear,” she said.
Pierce reiterated that even spending a single day in jail would be enough for him to end the relationship because he believes his partner’s actions also reflect on him.
“You go to jail for 24 hours, we’re done. That’s a reflection of me, like damn, I need to choose better.”
