We’re back with another edition of the MLS power rankings after a fascinating weekend of action around the league. We saw upsets, blowouts, and plenty more drama.
Let’s dig into the top-10.
10. Portland Timbers (🆕)

The Timbers crack the top-10 for the first time season, and rightly so. Phil Neville’s side have seemingly discovered the balance between defense and attack that has been missing since the start of his tenure.
After winning a six-goal thriller in Kansas City on Sunday, the Cascadia club have now secured all three points in three of their last four MLS games to sneakily move into a pearly fourth-place in the west.
9. Orlando City (no movement)

Orlando City have sputtered as of late after starting the season in a rich vein of form in front of goal. Two successive goalless draws leaves a sour taste in the mouth of Orlando fans, but defensive improvements can’t be scoffed at.

The trick now is to have the attack and the defense show up on the same day! When that happens, they will be a force.
8. Philadelphia Union (👎)

The Union looked to for all the world to be an all-conquering force in the opening few weeks of the season, but a bucket of cold water has been dumped on Bradley Carnell’s side as of late.
And due to falling to NYCFC in Queens on Saturday, the Union have now failed to win in three straight games after winning three of their first of four.
7. LAFC (👍)

With Concacaf Champions Cup duties now squarely in the rearview mirror, LAFC can focus on domestic proceedings. It has been clear as of late that it is not a squad built to compete on multiple fronts, but a win over San Jose Saturday evening is a great first step in rejoining the conversation out west.
6. San Diego FC (👎)

San Diego have been one of the truly marvelous surprise packages in MLS this year, but they were going to have to come back down to earth sooner or later. In Colorado this past weekend they did just that.
Despite fighting back to make the scoreline look a bit more appealing, the hometown Rapids were rampant on the break and Mikey Varas’ side looked unable to find a solution.
5. Minnesota United (no movement)

Minnesota United are one of the more consistent performers in MLS, but that isn’t necessarily a compliment. Eric Ramsay’s side tend to always find themselves in tight games, but given their superb tactical discipline they rarely ever get blown away, and on h

Failing to score against a sorry Toronto side doesn’t bode well, but you would expect the Loons to bounce back.
4. Charlotte FC (👍)

Charlotte continue to roll in 2025, and while a win against Montréal is a feat most MLS teams will capture this season, the three points ensured Dean Smith’s side will head into the next matchday 2nd in the Eastern Conference.
3. Inter Miami (👎)

Miami have fallen out of first in our rankings for the first time in a number of weeks — two consecutive goalless draws when you boast some of the most prolific attacking talent this league has ever seen will do that to you.

But with that aforementioned talent, you can bet the Herons will string together some wins in the near future.
2. Columbus Crew (👍)

Eight games. The Crew are closing in on a double-digit unbeaten streak after a thrilling comeback in in St. Louis Sunday evening.
Diego Rossi is playing at an MVP-caliber level, and now Dániel Gazdag has been thrown into the mix after Columbus splashed the cash to add more talent from a point of strength. Look out folks, Wilfried Nancy’s Crew are at it again.
1. Vancouver Whitecaps (👍)

It is no surprise that the high-flying ‘Caps have made into the number one spot this week. Jesper Sørensen’s side put on a show against Austin on Saturday, thanks in large part to a historic four-goal performance from Brian White.

Coming into that match, Austin had conceded three goals all season — Vancouver put five past them in one night.
